Calendula ointment

What you need:

Make sure everything is thoroughly cleaned before you start working.

1. Pour 500 ml peanut- or olive oil over 50 g dried calendula flower heads. Leave to stand in a warm place for 2-3 weeks in a glass jar which is tightly closed.

2. Strain the oil to separate it from the flower heads and make sure there are none left in the oil. Pour the oil in a pan an heat up just BEFORE boiling point.

3. Add 40 g cacao butter and 40 g beeswax.

4. Once everything has melted take the pan of the oven and stir well. Leave it to cool and pour into well cleaned glass jars when it starts to go solid.

I placed some of the cream in the freezer because the amount I made was just to much. I found that the consistency was much nicer after defrosting it. Just test it yourself by using some just after making and some after freezing. See what you think. Label your jar with the date you made it. Many books advice you that without preservatives a cream/ ointment only lasts for a couple of weeks. Honestly? I have been using my calendula ointment for well over a year and it still seems fine to me. BUT, that does not mean it will work for you. Trust your own judgment to decide when the cream is off. The amount you get from this recipe is quite a lot. Maybe you should consider to half all the ingredients or use even less if you are not sure you will like this ointment.

I like to use my calendula cream on my lips at night, hands, elbows and sometimes on my feet as well. Apply it thick on your feet, put on some COTTON socks and keep on for a couple of hours. Your feet will feel really smooth after it.
